Tips and Tricks for a Healthy and Happy Halloween

Take Family Walks To Prepare for Trick-or-Treating

Going on walks in the neighborhood is a great way to bond as a family and fit fitness in. If you’re not yet in the habit of walking, consider walking 20-30 minutes a few times a week before Halloween arrives. Doing so will also allow you to keep up with your kids, as they lead you all over the neighborhood in their quest for candy.

Serve a Healthy Halloween Meal

As your kids will want to enjoy some candy after trick-or-treating, plan to serve a quick and healthy meal before heading out. Doing so will keep them full and less likely to overindulge in sweet treats.

Wear Supportive Shoes

When you get to walking, you’ll want to wear supportive and comfortable shoes to avoid pain, blisters, trips and falls, all of which can be quite scary. Wearing shoes that offer good support can also help prevent back pain.

Set Limits

Try setting a limit on how much candy your kids can consume when they get home and in the days and weeks to come. For example, consider allowing your kids to have 3-4 small pieces of candy or one larger item on Halloween night, and then 1-2 pieces of candy per day over a predetermined period.

Freeze and Donate Treats

Consider freezing some of your child’s candy, which will help keep them from consuming too much at once. You can also encourage your kids to donate some candy to a charity that accepts it.

Get Adjusted

Chiropractic care is a healthy habit not just during Halloween but all year long. Getting adjusted may help scare away pain and help you and your trick-or-treaters stay healthy.
