Digital X-Rays in Frisco
When you’re dealing with back pain, neck pain, a spinal injury, or another musculoskeletal problem, seeing what is happening beneath the surface can sometimes provide useful information.
Frisco Chiropractor Dr. Jason Venn offers digital X-ray imaging in the office when clinically appropriate. He may use X-rays to evaluate spinal alignment, bone structure, joint changes, previous injuries, and other findings that could influence your care.
Not every patient needs X-rays. We consider your history, symptoms, examination findings, age, prior imaging, and other clinical factors before making a recommendation.
Why Might a Chiropractor Take X-Rays?
X-rays aren’t necessary simply because you’re visiting a chiropractor. They’re used when the information they provide can help with your evaluation or treatment decisions.
Depending on the patient, digital X-rays may help Dr. Venn evaluate:
- Spinal alignment and structural changes
- Degenerative changes involving spinal joints
- Changes in disc-space height or bone spurs
- Evidence of certain previous injuries or fractures
- Scoliosis or other spinal curvature changes
- Vertebral positioning and anatomy relevant to chiropractic care
- Findings that may call for further evaluation or a different approach to care
Imaging is only one part of the clinical picture. Dr. Venn considers the images alongside your symptoms, health history, physical examination, and other relevant findings.
How Imaging Fits with Gonstead Chiropractic
Imaging can be particularly useful with the Gonstead chiropractic system, which emphasizes careful evaluation and specificity rather than routinely adjusting multiple areas of the spine.
When X-rays are appropriate, Dr. Venn uses them alongside his examination findings to better understand spinal structure and factors that may affect how an adjustment is approached.
What Digital X-Rays Can and Can’t Show
Digital X-rays provide views of bones and certain structural features of the spine and joints. They may show degenerative changes, bone spurs, vertebral alignment abnormalities, reduced disc space height, spinal curvature changes, fractures, and prior injuries.
They don’t directly show spinal discs, nerves, muscles, ligaments, or many other soft tissues in the detail provided by an MRI. That’s why an X-ray alone can’t determine whether a disc is herniated or a nerve is being compressed.
If your symptoms or examination suggest that more detailed imaging is needed, Dr. Venn can recommend the appropriate next step.
Do I Need X-Rays Before Chiropractic Treatment?
Not necessarily. Some patients may already have useful recent imaging, while others may have conditions for which an X-ray isn’t necessary. In some situations, another type of imaging or medical evaluation may be more informative.
The goal isn’t to take an X-ray simply because the technology is available. It’s to use imaging when it can meaningfully contribute to your evaluation and treatment decisions.
In-Office Digital X-Rays and Clear Explanations
Digital X-ray technology produces images electronically rather than on traditional film, making them available quickly for clinical review. Having this technology in our Frisco office allows imaging to be incorporated into the evaluation process when needed.
Dr. Venn reviews relevant findings with you and explains what the images show, how they may relate to your symptoms and examination, and whether further evaluation should be considered. Seeing something on an X-ray doesn’t automatically mean it’s causing your pain.
Digital X-Rays and Spinal Decompression
For patients being evaluated for spinal decompression, imaging may help determine whether this type of care is appropriate. Dr. Venn considers your symptoms, examination and neurological findings, and previous imaging. If more detail about a spinal disc or nerve is needed, an MRI may be more informative.
What if Imaging Reveals an Unexpected Finding?
Occasionally, imaging reveals something that requires further investigation or falls outside the scope of chiropractic care. In these cases, Dr. Venn can recommend additional imaging, medical evaluation, or referral when appropriate.
